Rob Hall or Scott Fischer?

Say you had to climb Mount Everest, if you wanted to or not. And you had some experience, not a lot, but enough. And knowing what you know about Scott Fischer and Rob Hall, whose team would you climb on? Rob or Scott?
Me personally, I would choose Rob Hall. I would choose him because he has everything planned out. And he seems like he has a plan for everything. And he has made it to the top of Everest 5 times before. Even his climbing name sounds strong, Adventure Consultants; not like Scotts, Mountain Madness. Scott doesn’t plan things out he just goes with the flow. And he has not made it to the top of Everest every time. That doesn’t make me feel too safe. Also if I don’t have much experience, I would choose Rob.

If I had to choose which guide I would follow up Everest I would choose Rob Hall. He seemed to know what he is doing and he has everything under control. Unlike Fischer he did not allow his climbers to climb freely during the acclimization period. He also treats his Sherpa’s with respect and when Tenzing fell into a crevasse he immediately went to his aid. But when one of Fischer’s Sherpa’s got HAPE he did not allow a helicopter to come pick him up.

I would choose Rob Hall too. Even though Adventure Consultants costs more that Mountain Madness, it seems like Rob Hall has the most experience. I wouls also like to be with Rob Hall because he takes a safer approach to the mountain. Instead of letting all his clients roam the mountain freely during the acclimization period like Scott, he makes sure nothing happens to anyone by keeping them in a single section of Everest.

I would choose to climb Everest with Scott Fischer. I would choose Fischer because he gives more freedom to his clients, but he doesn’t really watch them. Scott also, in my opinion, has a much better personality. Hall does keep telling his team that they have to move on, but Fischer, from what we know, tells his team the same thing but in a much kinder mood. Although Hall does have much more experience, Fischer does have a lot of experience and has had many more injuries so he probably knows how to deal with them better than Hall does.

I agree with Steven choose Rob Hall. I agree with Steven when he describes how much more organized and safer Rob is then Scott. Also, Rob has more experience on the mountain than Scott, so I would trust Rob more than Scott, if I had to choose. However, I also believe that if someone had to take a risk to summit Everest, Scott would let them, but Rob wouldn’t. How would you feel if a guide told you you couldn’t summit the mountain after you went through so much and tried so hard to reach the top, and then be told you had to give up and turn around? I believe that if you really want to reach your dream to summit Everest and are willing to take risks, then choose Scott. But in the end I would choose Rob because life is more important than dreams, then again, what is life without dreams?

I would also choose Rob Hall. Rob Hall has made it up Everest many times before, which Fischer has not. I would feel safer with Hall and feel like there was a better chance of me getting to the top. I also like how structured Hall's expedition is. Fischer lets his clients wander around, making it easy for one to get lost or die. Rob Hall keeps all his clients close together, if something bad happens, like a storm, then there is a better chance of all the clients surviving.

I would choose Rob Hall because he is a lot more experienced and he is more cautious when climbing Mt. Everest than Scott Fischer. Rob Hall tries to make a commitment to take everyone home safely while Scott Fischer allows his clients to wander on his/her own, but that is unsafe because they could get lost and die. Also Rob Hall has better instincts shown when he tells two of his clients that they should probably turn back because the summit was farther away and Scott Fischer tried getting to the summit with his horrible condition and allowed some of his clients to keep going to the summit at 3:00pm when the turnaround time was at 1:00pm. Lastly I think that Collin is right that you should put your own life ahead of your dreams because in this case if you get to the top, but in horrible weather you can die when you can try to get to the summit in the future.

I would go with Rob because he seems to me to be more experienced and more capable to take me up the mountain safely and quickly because he has more experience on the mountain than Scott. Also, he has more experience with clients and the Sherpa. These examples show that Rob is fit for the job.
