Would You Have Returned Alone?

Do you think that Madsen made a wise decision in leaving Yasuko and Beck and returning to Camp without them? I think he did make a good decision, because Yasuko was probably already dead, and he could not see where Beck was anymore. Even if he had managed to get Yasuko back alive, she probably would have died later anyway. If he had continued to look for Beck, he himself would probably have died and wouldn’t have been able to the others what had happened to Yasuko and Beck. It would have been hard to leave them, but I think that Madsen made a wise choice.

I agree, I would have left Beck and Yasuko. You shouldn’t have to risk your or anybody else’s life if there is not a good chance someone will live. I think it was smart what Madsen did. He was willing to not take the risk of trying to save Yasuko and Beck. It was smart because all the climbers on the mountain at the time were already exhausted and probably weren’t willing to go out of their tents and into the storm. Madsen mad ea smart choice to leave Beck and Yasuko because there was virtually no chance they would live in their condition. These types of decisions happen on Everest all the time and I think that if you choose to climb Everest, you have to be ready to accept that there is a huge chance that some people will die, possibly even you.
